Technology is ever changing, & for us it provides lots of perks because after all it does help us out in someway or another. I can remember way back when the only available types of hair straighteners were ones that caused a lot of damage to your hair. Before I purchased my ceramic hair straightener I had one by Hot tools which had the regular gold plates & not only would it take a few tries before I could get it to be completely straight but a lot of times it would also snag & dry my hair.
